Master Bathroom Gets Transformed!

First off I want to thank Matt the homeowner for allowing iPaint to serve his interior painting needs in Yukon Oklahoma. When I arrived at Matt’s home to give him an estimate, he told me that he has had over 7 different paint contractors give him estimates. He told me, none of them felt right! I told him that I’m here for the long run and I’ll give you a “Quality Paint Job at an Affordable Price”. I then proceeded with the sales presentation. Matt told me there is wallpaper in the master bath and it is starting to peel up on the edges and that he and his wife are tired of it looking so bad. First thing in my mind was who would put wallpaper in a steamy bathroom. Matt promised it wasn’t him and that it was the previous home owners.IMG_0629 I laughed and Matt proceeded to tell me he wanted the wallpaper removed, walls textured to match existing walls, and top coated with a moisture resistant paint. By the way, I highly recommend NOT to put wallpaper in a bathroom with a shower or bathtub, because it will almost always peel up unless you run a powerful vent fan to exhaust all the moisture in the air. How many of us can remember to flip that switch every-time we take a shower? LOL…. I proceeded with the estimating process by writing down all the wall and ceiling measurements so I could give Matt an honest formulated estimate. I never do guesstimates, because they always seem to bite me in the butt, Hmmm…. I wonder why?  A few days later Matt emailed me and accepted my estimate, so we shook hands and he told me to get started on his master bathroom.

Here are the steps we took to make this interior transformation happen:

  1. The first thing we did was lay plastic runners/drop cloths on the floor from the front door to the master bath. This is to make sure we don’t dirty up your carpets.
  2. Secondly, we cleaned and then masked off all wood work, tubs, sinks etc….
  3. Thirdly, we started to remove all the wallpaper off the walls. This takes some elbow grease if you know what I mean! I found a great article that goes into the details of how to properly remove wallpaper and prepare walls to paint HERE!
  4. The next step is to do a deep detailed re-mask, because we are IMG_0635about to use a hopper gun to spray on the texture. The texture mud is about to be everywhere LOL… this is why we make sure everything is properly masked off. If your interested, here is a brief summary of how I do knock-down texture: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knockdown_texture and a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r7s5V7aSszQ!
  5. After all the new drywall texture mud has dried, we do another deep detailed re-mask to get ready for primer and two finish coats. We give you straight lines because we back fill our tape lines with high quality latex caulking. Backfilling is simply caulking the tape line to make sure there are no cracks or bleed through from the wet paint. Good clean lines always!
  6. Okay we are ready for primer. We gave Matt one good coat of highIMG_0639 quality primer waited for that to dry, then we rolled on two coats of high quality interior Latex finish paint. We use the highest quality paint from OKC’s locally owned paint company H.I.S.! We painted the walls with a satin finish, color “Kilium beige”, to help resist moisture. I highly recommend either satin, low-luster, or semi gloss for all bathrooms that have a shower or bathtub.
  7. Finally the last task at hand is to remove all tape, paper, and plastic. We did a walk-around to make sure we didn’t miss anything. Always double checking each others work. Quality Control is Essential!

Before and after Pictures:

WOW! Pictures cant really describe the transformation that just took place! To make a long story short on how Matt struggled to find the right paint contractor to seeing his new freshly updated master bath, Matt and his Wife are finally releaved and never have to worry about that old wallpaper haunting them again!

Thanks for the business Matt!
