Re-finished Wooden High Chair

Here is an old wooden high chair that has had several years of abuse from several families. You can only imagine the shape this was in, but since it’s solid wood you can easily refinish it.

Here it is when I received it.

Now to fixing this little gem!

This first thing I did was wipe down down the surface with denatured alcohol to get off any grease or residue. Then I sanded it with 220 sand paper to get it ready for stain.

I applied 1 coat of Dura Seal penetrating floor stain in color Coffee Brown. This stain has a sealer built in so no need to seal it like normal stains. I also used this because I love the rustic color and it’s extremely durable because it’s designed for wood floors. Follow the instructions on the can.

After I let the stain dry overnight I lightly sanded it with 320 grit paper just to slick it up a bit.

Now to the fun part of applying the clear coat. I decided on a water based finish with a satin sheen. This product can be brushed or sprayed with great results. Not all brands of finishes can be trusted. I use General Finishes because they are extremely tough, water resistant, and chemical resistant! Oh and did I forget highly scratch resistant…

Material: General Finishes high performance

Sprayer: HVLP Earlex 5500

Here are the finished results of the High Chair. It turned out great and has a super smooth glass like finish.

Ole Lorec Ranch Desk

Here is an office desk from Lorec Ranch that I completely refinished. The old wax finish was cheap, very soft, and offered very poor protection to the wood. I had to put a stop to this!

First I used a citrus based wood cleaner to strip the wax. Lots of clean rags and patience does the trick!

Then I decided to re-stain the wood with a wood floor stain and sealer in one. This will give the desk top a very durable finish, top that with a quality wax finish and you have the look and feel of Old World craftsmanship!

The desk was very simple and kinda boring so I decided to spruce it up with a teal color paint. The look I wanted was an ole reclaimed barn wood look. Old barn siding that was once painted, is becoming popular in today’s high end furniture pieces!

Hand Scraped Round Side Table

Have I ever told you that I love rustic furniture? Well Im crazy about it, and when I was given this antique round side table I got extremely excited!

I pondered for months trying to decide what I was going to do with this piece. Then suddenly it came to me, I wanted to give this table a hand scraped look.

Here is what the table looked like when I received it.

I really like the white, but it’s just too much white and it looks boring, so I decided to keep the legs white and make the top a dark stain color.

Now I’m faced with sanding or stripping the white paint off the top, so I bought some 30 minute Klean-strip Stripper found at most paint stores: Home Depot, Lowes, ect… and applied this according to the instructions.

This is with one application, so it might take several steps before it’s completely stripped.

Once I got the top stripped I took out my secret tools and distressed this entire side table.

Here are the results:

I hand rasped the edges.

I sanded through the white paint in spots so you could see the original finish beneath.

Here I added wormholes for character and charm.

Then, I added a few cracks to make it look even older. Did I mention it’s super fun to do this?

This is a shot of the top.

This table was so fun to refinish! It went from plain and boring to a piece of art with rustic flare! My family will truly enjoy this piece and it will wear extremely well with the kiddos.

For those wondering… I used Old Masters Gel Stain, Dark Walnut for the top, and I finished the entire table with Staples Paste Wax to give it an old world touch.

Pottery Barn Table Reborn

This table was originally from Pottery Barn. Refinishing this dining room table was fun, yet challenging to recreate. Big thanks to Clint and Amanda for letting us work for you!

The Homeowners were tired of the plain black top, so they called me to see what in the world they could do with it. The color red crossed their minds, but when I saw their decor and room color I immediately thought that red would be too loud.

I suggested that they keep the bottom of the table black and turn the top back into the original wood color. I also suggested possibly a brown stain with a black glaze, and maybe some light distressing. They agreed.

So that’s what we did!

First, we used a paint stripper to take off the original black finish.

Then, we dye stained the top with a color called Perfect Brown from Mohawk Finishes.

The dye stain gives very even color and depth to the wood, especially when there are different colors or cuts of wood on the same piece of furniture. The best part about the dye… it’s waterborne, so no more messing with oil or lacquer stains, and yucky VOC odors. I might even write a separate blog just on dye stains in the near future.

Next, I applied one coat of General Finishes Enduro-Var clear coat on the top. I waited for it to dry and decided to do some light distressing.

Next, we glazed the table top with a black glaze. Boy, I had some fun with this! This is where you can get as creative as you want.

Here you can see I added a few streaks and knots just to give this top more character. Kids can beat this up now and it’s simply going to add more to the table’s character.

Now that I got this table looking the way I wanted, I applied 3 more coats of General Finishes Enduro-Var clear coat. Did I tell you this product is probably one the toughest finishes on the market? It’s also a waterborne product. Check it out…

I love the way this table turned out, and it wasn’t that hard to refinish. This table has been reborn and should give many more years of enjoyment to the homeowners.

So Fresh, So Clean!

Here is an Exterior in Yukon, Oklahoma that we painted! The home needed its spirits to be matched with the owner so thats exactly what we did. This home went from looking sad, to now looking very fresh and clean! We did have to replace some soffit board under the back patio and we decided to trim it out more to give the patio a cleaner look. Check out these photo’s….

Antiqued Vent Hood

Here is a beautiful Vent Hood we just completed for a interior kitchen remodel in Yukon Oklahoma. There is crackle finish all over in random places, and we glazed it with a color called Bills Brown. After we were satisfied with the piece we put a clear coat over it all to make the finish last many years. We put a lot of time and artistry in this vent hood. We take pride in our work and want our customers to be completely satisfied! Stay tuned for pictures of the complete kitchen makeover.

Country roads take me home!

A beautiful country home in Edmond Oklahoma that was looking very plain and lifeless. When I showed up in Edmond to this grand country home I was excited to make this home stand out amongst the others on the street. While walking around this home I noticed several areas of concern in the front and North side of this home. Just about all the soffit board had been severely water damaged. I immediately went to the homeowners to see if they had any water leaks inside. They told me that a few years back a hail storm had damaged the roof and it had been replaced since then. They also had a few roofing specialist check the roof to make sure no more water would leak. With the homeowners approval we replaced all the water damaged wood in the problem areas. iPaint will not hide anything from homeowners and will bring any potential problems we see to the customers attention. We like to find the cause to problem areas and fix them!

This home like all others we paint, received a complete mold/mildew treatment followed by low pressure washing. We wash every home so we know that we are painting on a good clean surface for the paint to stick strongly. We take great pride in making sure we leave your property cleaner than when we first arrived. We always strive to go above and beyond what’s expected.

Fresh Exterior Paint Job!

Going Green in Yukon Oklahoma. First I would like to thank Casey for allowing us to serve his familys exterior painting needs. Caseys home was originally dark green and looked very unhappy. When I went over to help pick out colors they wanted to stick with the color green but wanted a new and fresh look. Well…thats what they got! There home now looks alive and is very clean and crisp looking. I personally like this color and I’m so glad the homeowners picked colors outside the box. Caseys family enjoys the new look there house has and is extremely happy with our work.
